IN THE HEART OF MARRAKECH

The first time I visited Marrakech was in February 2007, as a guest at a friend’s house.

It was an unforgettable holiday and I remembered most of all the snail-based dinner in Jemaa el Fna square.

The food market in Marrakech is not only famous for its folk tradition and for its bright and colorful stalls, but also for the excellent food, and it is advised by many travel guides.

I came back years later and again and again…every time was a surprise, whether it was in the souk, looking for the perfect souvenir, or behind the guides prepared to lose myself in the colorful open-air markets.

My favorite season is around Easter when the weather is warm enough to swim in wonderful hotel pools, of which one of them i am about to tell you: the MAMOUNIA, the best resort i had the chance to visit to far.

Housed in a former royal estate dating from the 12th century, this sumptuous hotel is a 14-minute walk from the lively Jemaa el Fnaa Square, a 6-minute walk from the famous Koutobia Mosque and 6 km from Marrakech Airport.

“Timeless and wildly modern, radiant and intimate, oriental and open to the world, luxurious and authentic…” the Mamounia is all of this at the same time.
Four restaurants: the Moroccan, the Italian signed by Jean Georges, the Asian signed by Jean Georges, and the pool pavilion during warmest periods.

Directed by the cuisine biggest names, I had the privilege to taste traditional and contemporary-style dishes.

The French American chef Jean Georges Vongerichten is widely considered the father of fusion cuisine due to his exceptional ability to absorb different cooking styles and reinvent them on their own or in combinations.

I have just returned, but the sunset lights and the scent of the spices left in me that sweet memory and the due melancholy of someone wishing to be back as soon as possible.
