Aerion AS2… The Perfect Fly to Monaco

Simply the future of business aviation. This is the definition of Aerion AS2, the futuristic business jet developed in collaboration with Boeing and whose first flight is expected for 2023, inaugurating a new era for this segment of aviation, the private supersonic flights, and making it possible to connect very distant places on Earth in a shorter time frame than in the past.

Powered by GE Aviation Affinity engine, Aerion AS2 will connect Los Angeles and New York in 3 hours and 17 minutes, New York and Cape Town in 3 hours and 39 minutes, and New York and Dubai in 2 hours and 23 minutes. This is just to give you an idea. It will be possible thanks to a Mach 1.4 maximum speed and thanks to the innovative operations that NASA is testing on some F-18 Hornets, with limited noise emissions. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is working on this project with the purpose of containing the supersonic boom through new manoeuvres to break the sound barriers without causing confusion on the ground, in view of the future increasing diffusion of supersonic business jets.

Equipped with a large cabin and an extremely luxurious interior design, and even mostly customizable, Aerion AS2 breaks the sound barrier without an afterburner (the engines are completely deprived of it) and will be fuelled only with biofuels, making it a carbon-neutral aircraft.

Characterised by futuristic design and equipped with three engines (one in the back end, just below the vertical empennage, featuring some tailerons on its top thanks to a T configuration – a solution appeared years before on the legendary supersonic interceptor aircraft Lockheed-Martin F-104. The other two engines are located below the wings minimally outlined), Aerion AS2 presents a very stretched frontal section and a tapered body.

This recalls the already mentioned Starfighter and takes advantage, at the same way, of a design conceived for the maximisation of the performance and dedicated to the aerodynamic efficiency of this purpose. At this point, we can’t do anything but wait a few years to live those emotions of speed reserved so far too military jets. The ones we haven’t experienced since the Concorde times.
