Mariusse & Bonnet: The french atelier icon enchants Monaco

Mariusse & Bonnet came to be in Valence in 2019 in the region of Drôme in the southeastern part of France. Its name comes from Valentia which in Latin means strength and vigor. Like the name of the city where Mariusse & Bonnet (M&B) run their line of work, the two cousins Christophe Mariusse and Philip Bonnet gathered their forces to create the Atelier that takes its name from their association.

The two talented founders are driven by determination and passion and both of them were trained as jewelers but each with his own skills from a very young age. Philip Bonnet and Christophe Mariusse carried out their apprenticeship in a family member’s workshop. Theirs is a heritage of passion, vocation, and family history.

I asked Mr. Philip Bonnet to tell us how their Company was born and how their roles are divided: “Mariusse & Bonnet Atelier is our background: the history of two cousins Christophe Mariusse and myself. Linked by family ties and by having a passion for jewelry in common, we started our careers separately for some years. Later on, in 2014 we considered it natural to join our passions in order to found a new brand together. At last, in 2019 M&B was created. We work in perfect harmony with our specific competences: I deal with the purchasing of the gemstones and manage the commercial and administrative sectors while Christophe is in charge of the creative part of the Atelier. However, we are very close ad each creation is a tasty mix between our two universes between contemporary spirit and floral inspiration.” This formidable tandem, extremely attached to their territory, had the intuition to gather around them the best artisans of their own region, evaluating the local resources. The atmosphere of their workshop is family-minded and friendly. The strong point of this Atelier is the French savoir-faire and the highest level of craftsmanship.

Yet, M&B represent a perfect fusion between tradition and modernity. Their expertise gives birth to many unique pieces wonderfully crafted in their workshop without neglecting ethics:  since the very beginning Mariusse & Bonnet adopted ethical policies in close collaboration with an Atelier, member of the Responsible Jewellery Council. They are inspired by a spirit of responsibility and teamwork, the discovering of young talents who are encouraged and trained with passion and enthusiasm.

With more than thirty years of experience, the two founders of the eponymous Company are also forerunners in the digital world. They created, in fact, a special application that allows customers to plunge into the exceptional world of a French Haute Joaillerie workshop with the possibility to purchase new pieces at a special price without an intermediary.

I asked Mr. Philip Bonnet to explain to our readers how this innovative idea was born: We wanted to respond to several issues: to offer 100% French high-quality jewelry and to make this luxury sector easier to access. For this reason, we created the first complete digital application in the world of High Jewelry. Thanks to this tool, anyone can use it directly from the mobile. There are many functions available:  discover our know-how, acquire an exceptional stone or piece, make an appointment in Visio with Christophe and/or me and discover new functions linked to the world of French luxury. Available throughout the world, we are proud to show that our jewelry respects the ancestral codes of our profession, but also to facilitate contact with our French Haute Joaillerie Atelier.”

Recently Mariusse & Bonnet launched an important initiative: the partnership with the Valence leg of the historical Montecarlo Rallye organised by the Monaco Automobile Club (https://acm.mc/edition/rallye-monte-carlo-historique-2022/). This was a way of showing their love for the city of Valence and on this occasion, they established a long-term partnership with Champagne brand A.D. Coutelas and the great Grasse perfumer Galimard. A combination of all five senses for the joy of those who appreciate marvelous, handcrafted jewelry, excellent champagne and the most prestigious Grasse perfumery. M&B highlights the art of jewelry, paying tribute to nature and feminility.  The collection Four Seasons, Equinoxe, Les Intemporelles, Les Crystallines are emblematic of their poetics.

I wish to conclude with an extract of Charles Baudelaire’s poem “Les Bijoux” (the Jewels):

La très chère était nue, et, connaissant mon coeur,
Elle n’avait gardé que ses bijoux sonores….

Quand il jette en dansant son bruit vif et moqueur,

Ce monde rayonnant de métal et de pierre
Me ravit en extase, et j’aime à la fureur
Les choses où le son se mêle à la lumière

My darling was naked, and knowing my heart well,
She was wearing only her sonorous jewels….

When it dances and flings its lively, mocking sound,
This radiant world of metal and of gems
Transports me with delight; I passionately love
All things in which sound is mingled with light.

Love, passion, art, light, nature, sounds, perfumes: that’s the world of Mariusse & Bonnet.
