Daverio1933: Heritage and Tradition

A story that begins in the Thirties and originates from the creative genius of Franco Daverio (1917-1999) who expressed his art in unique sculptural works.

 

 

Franco is a complete artist, sculptor, painter and goldsmith. Trained at the School of Applied Arts in Cantù (Italy), his teacher was the famous Italian sculptor Fausto Melotti, who was one of the protagonists of the Italian Artistic Movement “Novecento” and later he adhered to the metaphysical and rationalistic style. It was immediately evident to the Maestro Melotti that the young Franco Daverio had a particular sensitivity, which distinguished him from all the other students of his Plastic Art course. Franco’s works took inspiration from ancestral civilizations by recreating with a personal style, motifs of the Ancient East, Africa and the Middle Ages. He revived ancient myths and even anticipated the future in an oniric way.

 

 

Franco Daverio’s son, Luca, took his first steps in his father’s workshop that appeared to him like an alchemic laboratory. Later, continuing the family tradition, he opened a jewelry atelier in the centre of Bergamo.

 

 

“I can’t imagine doing my job without thinking about my father. His laboratory was a magical place for me. Over 40 years ago, when I was starting out, I would help my father in the creation of his jewels and from the very first moment that I was able to shape something, model metals with my hands and form an object, I was fascinated by the potentials of this art.It gave me great joy to apply my manual skills by hammering, filing, welding and generally working with metals. It was a different kind of attractiveness from that of sculpture, because I also had to take into consideration the use of the jewel and the person that would wear it, and not as in sculptures, a pure and simple stylistic exercise. Even today, I continue to work with the same passion and joy as in the beginnings and the pleasure of seeing our story continuing with the artistic legacy taken up by my son Pablo “.

In his first collection named “Heritage”, Luca expressed his artistic sensitivity by taking inspiration from all the knowledge inherited from his father and refining it into a personal style, in which the exquisite art of embossing and chiseling was represented in all its splendour.

 

 

Luca has a polyhedric personality that allows him to vary and extend his knowledge in the field of jewelry. Architect, sculptor and artist, he has an eclectic style delightfully expressed in his collections such as, for example, the ForEverHug Me line, which, as its name suggests, represents a symbolic embrace full of emotional meanings.

For this reason, Daverio1933 has adhered to the protocols of the Kimberley Process which guarantees that the profits obtained from the diamond trade are not used to finance civil wars or do not come from the exploitation of child labor. Nowadays, the Maison draws new life with Pablo, Luca’s son, who represents the third generation. In this uninterrupted generational flow, he brings new ideas and keeps up the artistic heritage of the brand.
