Alessia: hello Giorgia, welcome! I read your story, which I find extremely interesting. You said in the past “watches have always been part of my daily life” what did you mean?

Giorgia: watches are a family affair, my dad was and still is one of the most important watch collectors in the world and when I was little my parents often took me to international auctions, watch fairs and other events. Even at home there was never a shortage of watches, as my dad took such maniacal care of them. As I grew up, I also became passionate about them. In fact, after graduating with a degree in foreign languages, I went to Geneva for a year to do an internship in an auction house specialising in modern and vintage watches, before returning home and continuing the family business.

Alessia: i know that even the New York Times published a wonderful article about you, how did you feel?

Giorgia: of course it was a great satisfaction, but the articles and interviews have fortunately become a constant in my working life of which I am very proud. I consider them a further stimulus to go on and do even better.

Alessia: tell me about your collection.

Giorgia: my collection… well, still not big enough to stop looking for selected pieces.
My collection is made up of watches from a variety of brands, all united by quality and the fact that the guarantee always accompanies the watch. I appreciate watches with a men’s size but also those with a smaller women’s size. The most important watches are those that have been given to me for important occasions, such as the birth of my children or a wedding.

Alessia: you inherited this passion from your father, what does it mean to you to be one of the very few women in this business and how do you reconcile it with the ‘work’ of being a wife and mother of two young children?
Giorgia: reconciling my role as a mother and my work is certainly the most complicated part of organising my life as spending time and being present in my children’s daily lives remains the priority every single day, but at the same time I cannot give up certain work events that often do not take place in my city.
Being a woman in a purely male world was complicated in the beginning, but then my authority in the marketplace increased, along with my self-confidence. I still struggle against a few banal clichés but by now the worst is over and I must say that I now deal with many women working in the watch industry, but usually behind the scenes.

Alessia: plans for the future?
Giorgia: many, some with nice surprises. Certainly at the base there is the increasingly strong sharing with my family of everything I do. At work, major collaborations are opening up that will give me the chance to learn more about sectors that I have yet to explore, and to strengthen my position as opinion leader and advisor in the world of luxury watches.
