The metallic visions of Gianluca Saitto

The pandemic has plunged all of retail into a very grey period, and fashion is no exception. In the art of fabrics, shapes and creativity, change is increasingly incisive and oriented towards a more human-friendly rhythm that allows for sustained quality, uniqueness and durability of garments.

Gianluca Saitto confirms his sartorial approach with the creation of timeless collections. For an autumn-winter season marked by COVID-19 and almost total lockdown, he proposes the fluidity of metal and the harshness of contrast, a reflection of an increasingly deconstructed and changing society, starting from remote working methods that have rapidly become a structural component of the current landscape.

The photoshoot stage is the cellar of an ancient farmhouse where there is a whole array of modern touches, a setting that welcomes the vision behind this collection: lights and shadows, the iron of the antique locks and shiny aluminium of contemporary barrels, the roundness of the charming old wooden barrels and angularity of the new ones in metal.

The skirts, balloon or with geometric edges, are made from crisp gold and silver silk jacquard paired with jackets in smooth leather and faux leather in contrast with a zipper in plain sight. The key fabric of the collection features a liquid metal splash effect used both for the jackets, all with zip fastenings and for the skirts.

The iconic piece of the collection is the gold-coloured sheath dress with flashy polka dots and maxi-volume short sleeves shaped like flower petals. Lace and sheer fabrics, a mainstay of the designer’s choices, are used for tops and evening dresses an interesting choice of electric blue with luminous reflections that work well for a metallic glow effect.

The black and white optical angle is confirmed, a leitmotif of Gianluca Saitto’s work that makes an appearance from one collection to the next: now it’s the turn of Picassian prints on mini dresses and kimonos tied at the waist.

To complete the outfits, furs are introduced for the first time by Maison Saitto: electric blue mink and silver-grey fox, which adapt with the versatility to evening and daywear. And once we see a return to the combination of blue, black and white in the casual outerwear in bouclé fabric, again with exposed metal zippers.
