Traveling with MIREYA CORSETTI: Brasil

 

On this occasion, I will tell you a bit about this “Cidade Maravilhosa” (wonderful city) as it is known worldwide, Rio de Janeiro, which means river of January. It is located in the southeast of Brazil, is the second largest city in this beautiful country and one of most visited in the southern hemisphere.

Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, and Barra da Tijuca are some of the most iconic beaches in the city. Beautiful waters and stunning natural landscapes, such as the famous landmark  “Pão de Açucar” (Sugarloaf mountain), are their main features.
A distinctive characteristic is their white and black mosaic sidewalks, each different for each beach. These are a true piece of urban art that complements the white sands of Rio de Janeiro.

Home to one of the wonders of the world, the “Cristo Redentor” (Christ the Redeemer) statue, with its 38 meters in height and 28 meters in length, embraces the city from the summit of Mount Corcovado. This impressive sculpture is one of the main tourist attractions to visit. Considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is a symbol of peace and Christianity.

When we talk about Brazil, it is impossible not to think of Carnival, as it is precisely in Rio de Janeiro where one of the largest, most colorful, and joyous events in the world takes place. Each year, for 5 consecutive days in February, this massive celebration combines culture, music, floats, elaborate costumes, and the energy and creativity of the samba schools that have been preparing for a year to parade on the Marquês de Sapucaí avenue at the country’s most important Sambadrome. The Carnival in Rio is undoubtedly a unique and unmissable spectacle that captivates millions of people.

Rio de Janeiro is a very important financial center for Brazil, a modern, multicultural and historic city. Visiting it is a true pleasure, with its welcoming, cheerful, and friendly people. The city offers a variety of international-class hotels, restaurants serving Brazilian cuisine and food from many other countries, museums, theaters, beaches filled with people playing soccer and practicing water sports, luxury shopping malls, and an endless list of things to see and do.
